Nautical themes are a bit tired, don’t you think? I say the way to look fresh for summer is with fish themes. And while everyone else is still fawning for all over floral prints, why not go for an all over print with a bit more crazy?
I purchased this dress a few years ago while thrifting with a friend. This mate was a great thrift-partner because she really encouraged anything that was a bit “out there” and in turn helped with expanding my own personal style. Her style was like a cross between Nancy Reagan and Betsy Johnson in hues of purple, royal blue and bright red. The first time we ever went thrifting together we each ended up with garbage bags full of pink and purple wind breakers, matching gem sweaters and sequined sweater dresses.
On the day I found the fish dress, we were scouring the racks as usual when I pulled said number out. “What do you think of a fish dress?” I asked holding up the garment. “I like fish dresses as a rule” she reminded me. This friend’s “lucky” dress, you know the one that always seems to get you into good trouble, was a Besty Johnson bright blue sweater dress with a pattern of neon green and yellow fish.
Fish dresses as a rule? I couldn’t agree more. Since purchasing I’ve worn the fish dress a variety of ways, including once wearing it out for the day in a bright blue wig with blunt bangs and white tubesocks in place of shoes. In your town right now I bet a few fish dresses hang in moth ball scented salvation armies and second sale shops. The more cheesy 80′s or 90′s they are, I say the better!

Coralie, It’s actually really easy! I just line my eyes with a shadow using a fine brush, in this case a neon green from MAC.
