Kitten and Queen of Brunch

I wore this very 1993 outfit the other weekend on a rare hungover morning out to brunch.  The phenomenon many refer to as “hungover humor” was operating on high. For those who aren’t familiar, hangover humor is like semi-still-drunk nonsensical, witty silliness. After a night out, I can never tell if it’s the post-drinking icky-ness or the ridiculous behavior and jokes that keep me in bed ’till noon, laughing with Ned. Since I don’t drink often, hangovers come with both a real yech and a strange comfort in watching movies all day and laying around.

All I really remember about taking these pics was declaring “I am the Queen of Brunch!” Yeah I’m really not sure what it means either but I’m guessing it wasn’t far off from when I was 4-years-old and would proclaim to anyone in ear-shot “I’m the Queen of the Weeeerld!” Anyway, for whatever reason Ned responded “You are the Queen of Brunch” so in my mind that made it official.

To my title’s credit, I used to do alot of brunch. During college, when my days consisted of “where are we going out tonight?” brunch was always a must. And with lighter class schedules, Summer-brunch was a given. So why not give you a few of my old brunch-musts? From the highness herself:

  • Attire: It is all about the comfy and the crazy. You don’t wanna be wearing anything restricting when eating that tower of french toast, but half the fun of hungover humor is putting on ridiculous things that you pick up off the floor, swearing that you’re gonna wear out. A time when Ned wore a girls fur rockawear jacket and one of my earrings comes to mind. Of course, sunglasses are a must. Wigs are even better.
  • There are no diets at brunch. None.
  • Some people drink at brunch, which can be nice but isn’t a must. I always crave like 5 different drinks when I wake up thirsty, so why not order a diet coke, a water and apple juice with your mimosa? Staying hydrated is always must hungover or not.
  • So I can be one of those people who wants everyone to order something different so we can all try it, but if you are regulars and you know the veggie breakfast burrito is to die for, this rule goes out of the window. (I’m looking at you Disco Brunch @ Ann Sathers!)

Do you ever have hung-over humor? What are yr fave brunch spots? Am I making you wish it were the weekend already?
