What He Wore:
I’ve spent alot of my life trying to avoid wearing shorts. But in the midst of a balmy summer, I can’t help but give in to the cooler fabric and the smack of sticky thighs that comes along with it. Shorts, I think, are supposed to be sexy. Images of California-tanned gleaming gams in Daisy Dukes comes to mind…but with legs the hue and consistency of greek yogurt I could never live in L.A. My shorts-shame started around adolescence. For whatever reason I wasn’t allowed to shave my legs until the Spring semester of 7th grade — the girls in my class had started in 5th. So I spent most of 6th grade hiding my stems under long dresses. This sparked a group of girls in my class (the kind with the California tan legs) to nickname me “Vampire Girl.” After shaving my legs for the first time in 7th grade I showed up to school donning a pair of new denim shorts. As I walked into the gym a girl said, “Ah, she just made me feel so much better. I was complaining about my legs not being tan enough but look at her!” In highschool on one of those too-hot Summer days, a friend’s alcoholic, semi-toothless father exclaimed upon my arrival “Damnnnnn White Legs!” Ned reports a very similar history with shorts…so what is the moral of this story? Don’t trust tan people? Well… maybe. I say try wearing something that someone told you that you couldn’t, own it and prove that it was never true!

Thanks Miss P! I dont know why it feels so good to do that but it just does!! Btw I thrifted a pair of Ralph Lauren pleated powder blue shorts with a rose floral print this wknd, thinking about rockin them with a blazer and some pearls!
