Experimenting with a new make-up look inspired my McQueen’s Fall 09 runway. The look is basically white out face and Joan Crawford’s lips. I used MAC Redd lipliner and MAC Lady Danger matte lipstick.
To figure out what we wanted to stock our bar with we had a Vodka blind taste test. Finlandia vs. Stoli, Finlandia won on taste alone but Stoli won for martini making. Stoli it is.
Outfit for a night on the town. Ned bought me these bindis when he was in India, I pretty much exclusively pair them with classic, more conservative wear.
Because Ned and I are all about being bourgeoiy on the cheap, we decided to do white china with mixed and matched patterns for our everyday platewear. We scoured the thrifts this wknd and scored.
Close-up of the patterns (we got multiples of each plate)
We are also doing mix-and-match crystal for our glassware.
This is pretty much a variation on my go-to everyday outfit. It consists of wearing lots of black stretchy items, then draping yourself in more black materials. It’s my earthy-goth contemporary/futuristic dance instructor look. This style was born from an emotionally dark Autmun and listening to alot of Kate Bush. Could you have imagined it any other way?
If you didn’t notice the first time, shoes (omg)
SJ, my darling friend, baby cousin and hair stylist. She and her GF threw an all girls beauty nite. She chopped my hair into a sleek bob. I’ve been hesitant to go bob-length cuz i feel like its the every-girl-in-america-do but growing out my hair has been tedious and I was getting weary of those lil flippy guys, so bob it is!
Pan seared Scallops with Lemon, Shallots and Capers over Buttery Lemon Rice with Asparagus and Spinach Salad with Capers and Hard-Boiled Eggs.
((Really should’ve been served with white wine))
This dish was total comfort food and turned out so delish I’m gonna share it with you guys.
Butter-Lemon Rice
- Leftover rice (about 3-4 cups cooked) or cook a cup of rice
- 4 tblspn butter
- salt and pepper
- 1 tspn garlic
- juice of 1-2 lemons
- Heat half the butter in a med-high heat in skillet. When butter foam subsides spoon in cooked rice a little at a time, tossing
- Season with salt to taste, lots of pepper, the garlic and juice of 1 lemon. Cook stirring frequently about 5 mins. Add up to all of remaining butter to taste.
- Add lemon juice to taste, serve with lemon quarters.
Scallops:
- about 1 lb sea scallops
- salt and pepper
- 1.5 tblspn butter
- 1. Sprinkle scallops with salt and pepper, heat a saute pan over medium-high til hir. Add butter and heat until golden brown
- 2. Add scallops one at a time cook until opaque, about 5 mins. Transfer to platter and save butter left in pan for sauce.
Sauce for Scallops
- 1 shallot
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1 tsp grated lemon zest AND tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon capers
- salt and pepper
- After searing scallops if more than about a tblspn butter remains drain to 1 tblspn.
- Saute shallot until softened, 1-2 mins
- Add wine and lemon zest and simmer to about 1/3 cup
- Turn off heat stir in butter, parsley, lemon juice, capers and salt and pepper to taste.
Asparagus and Spinach Salad with Capers and Hard-Boiled Eggs (Makes a pretty big salad, feeds 3-4)
- 5 tblspn olive oil
- 1 lb asparagus
- 2 tblspn white wine vinegar
- 1 shallot minced
- 2 tblspn cucumber
- 1 teaspoon capers
- 2 tspn tarragon leaves
- 6 oz spinach leaves
- 3 hard boiled eggs
- Heat tablspn of oil in skillet add asparagus, salt pepper and cook until browned and tender but crisp (about 4 mins)
- Hard boil the three eggs. (My best method is to bring them to a boil then turn off heat for 10 minutes and plop into an ice bath then peel)
- Meanwhile whisk remaining oil, vinegar, shallot, cucumber, capers, tarragon and pepper in a med bowl.
- In a large bowl toss the spinach with this whisked dressing and asparagus, sprinkle chopped hard boiled eggs over it.

We also did the taste test with gin: bombay saph vs tanqueray with the latter winning on both taste and martini.
I love your style…and I also tried to find this ultra light red lipstick and it actually turns out to be somewhat of a hunt for color …wear it as an assessor!!!
